SATKHIRA:  A fisherman narrowly escaped clutches of a tiger while catching crabs in a cannel of Sundarbans.

Ashraful Islam Khokhon came under the attack at Rajakhali area under Atharobeki of Sundarbans Satkhira range on Friday morning (May 3).

Ashraful Islam Khokhon, son of late Abul kashem, was a resident of Mirgang village under Shyamnagar upazila.

“A tiger suddenly attacked Ashraful Islam when he was busy catching crabs in the cannel. The tiger scratched Ashraful’s face, which forced him to fall in the mud, whereupon his companion began shouting and making loud sounds with the oar hitting on the boat,” Anwarul Islam, team leader of Tengrakhali VTRT of Wild Team, told Banglanews.

“Enraged with the sounds, the tiger released Ashraful and went back into the forest. Then, Ashraful was immediately brought into the boat. On information, wild team members came to his aid,” Anwarul Islam said.

“The fateful attack left marks on Ashraful’s face and neck. He is now unable to speak, because of bleeding from the neck. He now communicates by writing notes,” Anwarul Islam added.

“Ashraful is being given treatment at home,” Assistant Forest Conservator of the Sundarbans Satkhira range Rafiq Ahmed told Banglanews.
