Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin assured that the interim government will make efforts to make essential commodities more affordable ahead of the upcoming Ramadan.

He made the remarks on Saturday (Nov 23) while attending a program organized to provide education allowances to children of deceased members of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at Segunbagicha in the capital.

Speaking as the chief guest, Sheikh Bashir Uddin acknowledged the financial struggles faced by people and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to stabilize prices.

“We understand your difficulties, and I assure you that we are working to ease them. Prices of items like onions, sugar, and oil have already shown a slight decline,” he said.

The adviser further reflected on the challenging environment in which the government was formed, emphasizing the aim to create a “dignified society” amid such difficulties.

The program was presided over by DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, with General Secretary Mohiuddin delivering the welcome address and Welfare Secretary Tanvir Ahmed moderating the event.

Special guest AKM Mostafizur Rahman, Director and Chairman of the Risk Management Committee at NRBC Bank PLC, underscored the banking sector’s role in supporting the economy and its involvement in humanitarian initiatives.

Md. Rabiul Islam, NRBC Bank’s Managing Director and CEO emphasized the bank’s commitment to social development, stating, “NRBC Bank actively engages in social welfare alongside its traditional banking activities and will continue to support DRU in similar endeavors.”

Other speakers included Md. Harun-or-Rashid, Head of NRBC Bank’s Communication Department. Key DRU members, including Joint Secretary Md. Mizanur Rahman, Finance Secretary Md. Zakir Hussain, and Executive Member Rafiq Mridha, were also present.
