DHAKA: The schedule of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations are in disarray as the five exams scheduled to be held on Sunday and Monday shifted due to hartal.

The parents are in tension as the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Monday on an appeal filed by Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman challenging the death penalty awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

The JSC and JDC examinations were scheduled to be held from November 2 (Sunday) but Jamaat-e-Islami called hartal on Thursday (October 30) and from 6:00am Sunday (November 2) to 6:00am Tuesday (November 4).

Education Ministry shifted the examinations of Sunday (November 2) to November 7 and Monday (November 3) to November 14.

Meanwhile, according to previous declaration, Jamaat-e-Islami has called 24-hour hartal for Thursday (November 6) protesting the death penalty of Mir Quasem Ali awarded by ICT-2. On November 6, English (II) of JSC and Arabic (II) of JDC are scheduled to be held.

Education Ministry and the officials of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka are yet to clarify whether the examinations of November 6 would be shifted.

Dr Dilara Hafiz, Chairman of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, told banglanews that the decisions about shifting the dates of examinations will be taken after a meeting with the education minister.

Some 2,090,692 students are sitting for JSC and JDC examinations this year.
