DHAKA: Thor has hammered the competition at the US box office with an impressive $86 million opening weekend.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ was the clear winner at cinemas landing the fourth biggest debut of 2013, behind fellow superhero movies ‘Iron Man 3’, ‘Man of Steel’ and ‘Fast & Furious 6’, reports contactmusic.com.

Johnny Knoxville’s comedy Bad Grandpa comes in a distant second on the new box office countdown, with an $11.3 million weekend, while animated comedy ‘Free Birds’ flies to three with $11.2 million.

Last Vegas and sci-fi fantasy ‘Ender’s Game’ round out the new top five.
