DHAKA: Renowned comedian Joan Rivers died in a New York hospital Thursday afternoon at the age of 81.

Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, confirmed the matter, reports BBC early Friday.

The media added that Melissa said her mother passed away surrounded by her family and friends at Mount Sinai Hospital.

She stopped breathing during a procedure on her vocal chords at an outpatient clinic in the afternoon, Joan’s daughter added.

However, the funeral for Rivers will be at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan of New York on Sunday.
