DHAKA: The Health Ministry has formed a disaster committee for providing treatment to burn victims during large disaster.

The information was revealed at press conference in the burn unit at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital at 11:30am Thursday.

Health directorate director (administration) Baharul Haque Dulal told reporters that as per directives of health minister, a good number of doctors and nurses have been appointed in the burn unit aimed at providing better treatment. They have already joined their duties.

He went on saying that surgery specialists from 64 districts will be given special training under burn units of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Mentioning that about 6-lakh people sustained burn injuries in a year across the country, the secretary said all of the victims head to burn unit at DMCH. Government has taken the initiative to ensure better treatment of them.

Disaster committee will visit the spot if necessary and provide all kind of assistance to burn patients, he added.

At the beginning of press meet, professor Dr Sazzad Khandaker said a total of 91 people, who sustained burn injuries during ongoing violence, had given treatment at DMCH burn unit till Thursday. 

Of them, some were released from outdoor of the unit after treatment.

Dr Sazzad Khandaker went on saying that three more victims have been admitted on Wednesday night.  Some 48 victims, including the three, are undergoing treatment here. Of them, six have been shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Burn Unit director professor Dr Abul Kalam, residential surgeon Partha Shanker Pal, were among others, present at the press conference.
