DHAKA: World Health Organization (WHO) revealed UN Child Mortality Report 2015 saying that at least 74,000 infants died this year.

They also expressed concern and said that in average 7,400 infants die everyday in southeast Asia.

However, the neonatal mortality rate is 23 per 1,000 in Bangladesh and 38 children aged under-five out of 1,000 die every year.

A total of 88,000 children aged under-five died this year, the report said.

India has the greater mortality rate which is 24 per 1,000 and Maldives and Sri Lanka have low infant mortality rate which is five.

According to the report, 44 percent children were born under supervision of proper care and 29 percent get health facilities.  

Regional Director of South-East Asia Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh said in a message from Delhi that the infant mortality rate will be decreased if the upcoming children get proper care and direction from expert people.

Additionally, the care to the one-day old baby will also lessen the mortality rate, she added.

She also remembered that the mortality rate should be screeched down at 12 per 1,000 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) within 2030.
