KOLKATA: Flood furies are raging close by Bangladesh’s north, as one person died in flooding in Kuchbihar and Jalpaiguri of India’s West Bengal with several rivers bursting their banks amid heavy monsoon rain for the last 24 hours.

People of those areas moved to higher grounds, including dams, following flood warnings.

Kailash Mridha, 26, died in a storehouse of Alipurduar.

Officials told the banglanews24.com.bd correspondent that all rivers of Kuchbihar and Jalpaiguri are flowing above danger levels. “People of those areas took shelter on dams.”

Authorities declared red signal for Kalojani river and yellow for Teesta and Shonkosh rivers to mark out the present condition of water levels, he added.

Most of the areas of Kuchbihar city and ward no 15 of Jalpaiguri were inundated. In order to assist flood-hit people, control rooms have been set up in every block of those areas.

More than 50 families at Nagrakata Block of Dooars still remained marooned. The flooding has also hampered life in Darjeeling.
