Australia's capital completely engulfed in a layer of thick orange some as the region continues to burn.
Canberra had the worst air quality in the world due to smoke from raging bushfires nearby.
The city has become completely orange with streets bare, except one man attempting to clean the forecourt of Parliament House.
As of Sunday morning Canberra still had some of the worst air quality in the world according to the World's Air Pollution Index.
The entire area is still classified as hazardous.
However the East Gippsland, the Goulburn Tablelands and Oakdale now have the worst air quality in the world with an index figure of 999 as of Saturday morning.
Canberra sits at an index rating of 730 and 615, any reading of 200 is considered hazardous.
On Thursday Canberra residents woke up to a thick smog with hazardous smoke levels at 579 and by Saturday it had gotten worse again.
Fires continued to burn on the south coast of New South Wales and authorities said the resultant haze was expected to linger.
A number of Canberra residents took to social media to share their experiences.
'I never thought Canberra would end up being one of the worst places on Earth,' one resident wrote.
'Our air filter is registering 150-200 whatever unit it's using. Normally it's like single digits...This is crazy,' another added.
'This is definitely the worst in the 3+ weeks we’ve been dealing with smoke. That was a proper thick bank rolling in quickly,' a third replied.
Acting chief health officer Dr Paul Dugdale told The Canberra Times residents needed to avoid physical activity and stay indoors where possible.
'With windows and doors closed, and not using evaporative air conditioners which draw air into the house from outside,' he said.
'Anyone with a heart or lung condition should take their medication as prescribed by their doctor. People with asthma should follow their asthma action plan.'
An official statement described the current weather conditions as unprecedented for the area.
'The unusual weather patterns we are experiencing, along with the fires across Victoria and the New South Wales Coast are unprecedented,' a statement from the ACT Emergency Services Agency read.
'We are cautioning the community to be well prepared.'
