445 coronavirus deaths in India in highest one-day jump

India has over 4.25 lakh coronavirus cases, recording the biggest single-day jump of 445 deaths amid renewed concerns over the rapid rise in new infections in the country. 

The spike in cases has taken the country's tally to 4,25,282 while the death count rose to 13,699, according to the Union Health Ministry data this morning. 

14,821 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, there has been a steady improvement in the recovery rate with 55.77 per cent of the COVID-19 patients being declared virus-free. 

The number of recoveries stood at 2,37,196. Delhi has overtaken Tamil Nadu to become the state with the second highest number of coronavirus cases in the country after Maharashtra. 

India has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases among 10 nations worst-hit by coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus (Covid-19) death toll has climbed to 4,71,177 worldwide till Monday afternoon. 

A total of 90,72,735 people have been infected and 48,55,156 people have recovered worldwide from the disease, according to latest data from worldometer.

A total of 213 countries and territories and two international conveyances have been infected in the deadly disease.

The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
