Journalist Zakeria Shirazi laid to rest

DHAKA: Eminent journalist and litterateur Zakeria Shirazi was buried at city`s Nakhalpara Shia graveyard Thursday afternoon.

He had been suffering from lungs infection for several months. On Tuesday he was rushed to City Hospital in Mohammadpur area as his health condition deteriorated.

He was under life support about two days and breathed his last there Wednesday night. He was 73.

His namaj-e-Janaza was held after the Johr prayer at Shia Mosque in city’s Mohammadpur area on Thursday.

Later, he was buried at city’s Nakhalpara Shia graveyard.

His Kulkhani will be held at Mohammadpur’s Shia Mosque on Saturday after Johr prayer.

Shirazi began his journalist career with the weekly Holiday and then he worked with almost all the mainstream English dailies including New Nation, Independent and New Age.

He worked last at the Daily Sun as the Advisory Editor.

He was living in Tajmahal Road in Mohammadpur and left behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and well- wishers to mourn his death.
