Four killed as ambulance and two buses catch fire in Savar

Four people were killed and seven others sustained injuries when an ambulance caught fire following a gas cylinder explosion and a collision of two buses with the ambulance at Police Town in Savar early Thursday (January 9).

The ambulance’s gas cylinder exploded around 2:30 a.m., causing a fire that burned all four occupants to death, said Mizanur Rahman, a firefighter at the Savar Fire Station.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

Eyewitness Manjur Quadir recounted to Banglanews: “An ambulance was traveling in the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Aricha highway, with two passenger buses following it. When the ambulance reached Police Town, it suddenly made a loud noise and caught fire. At that moment, the first bus behind it collided with the ambulance, and the second bus crashed into the first. As a result, all three vehicles caught fire.”

The fire service arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control. However, the ambulance was already reduced to ashes, and the four people inside could not be saved. Although the fire in the two buses was extinguished, seven individuals sustained injuries in the incident, Quadir added.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
