People returning to capital with relief by train

As people are returning to Dhaka after celebrating Eid with their families, the post-holiday rush has been notably less stressful than in previous years.

Government and private offices are set to resume on Sunday, April 6, prompting many to head back to the capital.

However, this year’s journey has seen a more relaxed atmosphere, with fewer crowds and smoother train operations.

At Kamalapur Railway Station on Saturday morning, trains arrived steadily, carrying passengers from across the country.

Although there were some disruptions due to server issues that delayed morning departures, the flow of passengers remained manageable.

Nearly all trains were crowded, but passengers reported relatively comfortable journeys compared to past years.

For many, the Eid holiday was extended by the long break, easing the return journey. "I’ve never had such a comfortable Eid journey," said Akhlima Begum, who traveled from Jamalpur. "I didn't have to pay extra fare, and the whole trip was hassle-free."

Railway authorities noted that the extended holiday helped reduce pressure on the transport system. With a daily turnout of over 70,000 passengers, the Eid travel was well-coordinated, and trains operated mostly on time, with only a few delays.

To manage the increased demand, security was heightened, and additional measures were taken to ensure passenger comfort.

Kamalapur Station Manager Shahadat Hossain confirmed the smooth operation, noting that the number of passengers returning was higher than usual, yet everything proceeded efficiently.

Despite the large number of travelers, this year’s Eid journey by train was notably more comfortable, marking a positive shift in the annual post-holiday rush.
