3 of family succumb to burns

DHAKA: Three members of a family, including an 18-month-old baby boy, who sustained severe burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast at Kamrangirchar, died at burn unit of Dhaka Medical from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as mother Aklima Begum, 50, her daughter Joly Begum, 27, and Joly’s one-and-a half-year-old son Alif.

The explosion took place at the kitchen of Noakhali bari in Mojibar Ghat area of   Kamrangirchar at 11:30, leaving the there severely injured.

The victims were rushed to Dhaka Medical Collage Hospital and admitted at the emergency department of the burn unit there.

Aklima succumbed to her injures at 5:30pm on Saturday there and Joly died 10:30pm while the baby, who sustained 95 percent burn injuries, breathed his last early Sunday.

On-duty doctor at DMCH confirmed the deaths to banglanews.

Joly’s husband Ramjan Ali said “Gas often remains unavailable in their area, so they cook using cylinder. Pipe of the cylinder might have been leaked causing the blast.”
