DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the intelligence units are preparing an up-to-date list of the drug businessmen around the city. DMP will begin anti-drug moves soon as the list is about to be completed.
Recently DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed hinted at a program organized by anti-smoking organization Coalition Against Tobacco (CAT) in the city that police would begin anti-drug operation soon.
DMP joint commissioner (crime) Shahabuddin Khan told banglanews “Police conduct regular drives against new and old drugs peddlers and preparation is underway to start big move against them.”
When banglanews talked to several officer-in-charges at different police stations on the matter, it was confirmed that an up-to-date list was made in this regard and police would soon begin anti-drug operation.
Kafrul police station Officer-in-charge Abdul Kaiyum, told banglanews “Being instructed by the higher authorities, names, addresses, areas of the drugs traders have been made updated and anti-drug drives will begin soon.”
Bhashantek police station OC Hosne Ara Begum said “We are working on to collect information from the field level and the regular drives against narcotics are going on.”
No latest list of drug traders was made during last 2/3 years. Police and members of the intelligence agencies are jointly working on to prepare the list.
