DHAKA: Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander A Nikolayeva on Sunday claimed that Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant project is safe.
The Russian diplomat made the assertion while addressing a discussion on ‘country lecture on Russia in modern international policy’ at Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) auditorium in the afternoon.
Russian Ambassador said some Bangladeshi newspapers have claimed that ‘Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project is not safe’ but the information is not correct.
Rooppur Nuclear Project has followed that model, which has also been used in other 30 projects across the world.
Mentioning that Russia does not have any connection with Bangladesh in GSP, he added it might not affect trade relations with Russia after withdrawing GSP facility by United States of America.
Alexander A Nikolayeva also said political stability is important for economic development in Bangladesh.
Russia has been assisting the country in various ways since 1971, he added that Russia would remain continue political co-operation.
He said many Russian companies are collaborating in various sectors, including power and gas projects.
The Russian Ambassador also told his audience that their foreign policy depends on country`s economic development and enduring stability which plays an important role in plan.
Russia’s foreign policy always keep an eye on the national interests of planning.
Russia has important considerations in planning about China and India, he added. Bangladesh is also going to have the same interest in Russia`s foreign policy.
Mentioning that the traders of Bangladesh ‘lazy and fraud Alexander A Nikolayeva termed Bangladeshi traders ‘nonsense’. He said they don’t want to work. ‘Just sitting in the office and they use to mail.’
Export Promotion Bureau should work for the country, not for individual, he added. Each should do his own work to develop the country.
BIISS Chairman Munshi Faiz Ahmad, Director General Major General (retd) SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, incumbent and former and former Ambassadors of different countries attended the function.
