DHAKA: Jamuna Group Chairman Nurul Islam Babul, Dainik Jugantor publisher Salma Islam, the then editor Golam Sarowar were exempted from a defamation charge filed by BNP leader Mirza Abbas.

Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Alamgir Kabir Raj passed the order on Wednesday after indictment hearing.

Plaintiff and defendants of the case were present during the charge framing hearing.

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas filed the case on November 2, 2003 alleging that the Dainik Jugantor published two fake and fabricated news items which tarnished his reputation.
