A total of 671 leaders of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) from 10 police stations resigned, bringing allegations of arbitrariness against Chairman GM Quader and General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu.

Shafiqul Islam Sentu, the recently expelled convenor of JaPa Dhaka Metropolitan North, announced in a press conference at the National Press Club on Thursday (January 25) afternoon.

Addressing the press conference, JaPa's former presidium member Shafiqul Islam Sentu said, "The JaPa chairman and Secretary General have fallen into trap. Those who around them now, they have placed the trap. The thread of the trap is in the hands of secretary general. But, GM quader won;t able to come out of the trap. The thread of it is in the hands of secretary general and GM Quader is moving around being caught in the thread."

He said JaPa has already been destroyed. "We asked GM Quader many times that you come out of this vicious circle. He (GM Quader) said he can't do it. He does not have any information about what is happening to the party across the country. He comes at the office and leaves at night. He has not done anything aboiut a programme, public meeting, or grand rally of the party. We want resignation of the party's secretary general. T

hey are not competent enough to hold those posts. This party belongs to Ershad only and we stay under his flag. We will not do JaPa politics anymore keeping GM Quader as the party chairman. We will move forward being imbued with the ideals of Hossain Muhammad Ershad," he added.
