LAXMIPUR: Miscreants vandalized at least eight CNG-run auto-rickshaws and torched a motorcycle in different areas of the district on Tuesday.
Locals said some miscreants vandalized five CNG-run auto-rickshaws on Ramgati-Laxmipur highway in Hazirhat and Laurence areas of Kamalnagar upazila.
Earlier in the day, they also torched a motorcycle in front of Hazirhat Millat Academy.
A group of BNP men brought out a procession in Natun Bus Terminal area of the city in the morning and vandalized three auto-rickshaws in Natun Bus Terminal and Muktiganj areas in support of blockade.
Moreover, the blockaders also brought out processions in South Temuhani, Miar Rastar Matha, Eter Pole, Berir Matha areas of the city.
At one stage, police chased them and nabbed three Shibir activists, a student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
However, police control room sources said they detained other 19 people from different areas on suspicion of vandalism.
Additional members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in the areas along with police forces to avert any subversive situation.
