KUSHTIA: At least 30 people were hurt in a fight between two groups of local Awami League in Kushtia sadar upazila over the lease of a bazaar in the district.

The in-fight took place at Kamalapur Bazar in Ziarakhi union of sadar upazila.

However, police detained 23 till this evening. Identities of the detainees could not be known immediately.

Police and locals said that there was a long-standing clash between Awami League Ziarakhi union unit president Shahjahan Ali and its general secretary, also a UP member, Shahjahan Ali.

The scuffle turned into a clash this morning, leaving 30 people injured and establishment vandalized.

The seriously injured were admitted to Kushtia Medical College and Hospital while the rest took first aid, they added.

Confirming the matter, Kushtia additional police super (ASP) Abu Bakar Siddique told banglanews that additional forces were deployed in the area.
