Star Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir, who came out of retirement in March 2024 to play for Pakistan in the 2024 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, took to X on Saturday (December 14) to announce his retirement from international cricket.
“After careful consideration, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable. I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan Cricket to new heights!" Amir tweeted.
“Representing my country has been and always will be the greatest honour of my life. I would sincerely like to thank the PCB, my family and friends and, above all, my fans for their continuous love & support," he added.
Amir, who made his international debut for Pakistan on June 7, 2009, against England in the T20I match played at The Oval, played in a total of 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is for Men in Green and dismissed 119, 81, and 71 batters, respectively.
Amir first retired from international cricket in 2020 but reversed his decision earlier this year to play for the Men in Green in T20Is once again. He played all four Group A matches for the Babar Azam-led side in the T20 World Cup 2024. He dismissed one USA batter in the first match played in Dallas on June 6 and then got rid of two batters each in the next three matches played against India, Canada, and Ireland, respectively.
Imad Wasim retires
Earlier on Friday, all-rounder Imad Wasim also announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time. The 35-year-old has expressed his desire to continue playing domestic and franchise cricket around the world.
Like Amir, Imad also reversed his retirement decision earlier this year and made himself available to play for Pakistan in T20Is again. He was also picked for the T20 World Cup 2024 and played three matches against India, Canada, and Ireland.
