Shakib banned from bowling in international cricket

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced that star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in all domestic and international cricket until he rectifies his bowling action.

The suspension comes after the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) barred Shakib from bowling in competitions under its jurisdiction. According to ICC regulations, such bans are automatically extended to international cricket and domestic competitions globally.

"The BCB has been informed that Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in competitions governed by the ECB. As a result, he is also barred from bowling in international cricket and domestic competitions outside Bangladesh," the BCB stated.

The suspension follows an independent assessment of Shakib’s bowling action at an ICC-accredited testing centre in the UK. Under ICC regulations, when a player is banned from bowling by a domestic cricket board, the restriction is recognized worldwide.

This marks the first time in Shakib's illustrious 20-year career that his bowling action has been questioned. To resume bowling, Shakib must undergo a reassessment at an ICC-accredited testing centre and have his action cleared. Until then, he remains eligible to play as a specialist batsman.

The BCB added: "Shakib may appear for further analysis, and if his action is cleared, he will be allowed to bowl in international and domestic competitions. The board is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the ECB, ICC, and Shakib himself."

The BCB refrained from making additional comments but confirmed that efforts are underway to resolve the issue promptly.
