Mashrafe led team tigers play the second of the three matches ODI series against West Indies at Providence, Guyana today.
It is a day and night match on the same surface where they rediscovered themselves on Sunday winning the first ODI comfortably. Irrespective of the trauma of the test series Bangladesh is well equipped to win the match and win the series today with the last match to be played on 28 July. The momentum is with Bangladesh and that should be enough for winning yet again.
Lots of rain in the forecast. If the match gets underway and gets going gripping and turning wicket should suit Bangladesh more than the home side. Experienced Bangladesh team is favored to win the series as their big guns stormed back to form on time. This young West Indies team would however should not be taken lightly at all .They are also capable of turning around and snatching the match and the series from the jaws of tigers mouth.
If we look back in retrospect the first ODI one must appreciate the manner in which Tamim and Shakib batted curbing their natural instinct, grinding and grafting against good bowling on the sticky surface. True they were lucky in the sense that West Indies dropped few chances. But fortune favored brave Tamim and Shakib in setting up a milestone partnership which ultimately was bolstered by a nice little cameo of Mushfique.
Even 279/4 was thought about 25 runs short by the commentators. But Mashrafe re-injected venom in the veins of Bangladesh .The entire team bowled and fielded like injured tigers hungry for its prey. He himself led the way with his brilliant controlled bowling. His 4/37 was instrumental in winning the match by 48 runs. Yet there were some areas where Bangladesh coaching staff must have penciled for improvement.
Rubel and Mustafiz could not entice mistakes of the two West Indian tail enders. No smart variation of pace or use of lethal Yorkers were seen. Luckily Masharee could get rid of Holder and Russel on time .Or otherwise any of them could take the match away from Bangladesh.
Bangladesh may appear with unchanged team. It would not be fair scrapping Anamul after one match. He is a quality player and needs one good innings to get set and get going. I do not think Sabbir is ideal player for number four .He should rather bat at 7 or 8 and use his long handle for big finish. Shakib, Mushfique and Mahmudullah must bat higher. Even Mosaddek will be a better bet at higher order. Bangladesh if batting first must eye on 300 at least on the surface especially taking into account of probable Gayle hail or a cameo from Russel.
I think Mashrafee would always be a factor with new ball or whenever he returns but Mustafiz and Rubel must also add value. Spin attack is in the safe hands of Shakib, Miraj and Mosaddek. Even Mahmudullah may chip in with few overs. Bangladesh must take their chances.
Now about seeking review for DRS. Bangladesh must know when to and when not too. Hope team management have noted this and tutored the team well after last match.
In my opinion business as usual should led to a Bangladesh win today if weather permits the match to get going. But since it is a game of cricket nothing must be taken for granted. Bangladesh MUST MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES.
