Host England is tipped as hot favourite many analysts and observers for lifting the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. With 122 points England is now sitting on the top of ICC ODI ranking. Being host and having the favor of known environment the current England team possesses all that requires for challenging the best of the best in world cricket.
England cricket team represents, England and Wales since 1, January 1997, is governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). They have so far appeared in all world cup tournaments till date since its inception in 1975 but have never won it. They were losing finalists in 1979 in England, 1987 in Australia and 1992 in India. They were knocked out in the group stages in 1999, 2003 and 2015. They have hosted the events four times including the first three world cup tournaments in 1975, 1979 ad 1983. This time will the 5th when the event is held from 30 May to 15 July 2019.
Despite of the T20 franchise cricket rocking and rolling ICC World Cup is still regarded as the major yardstick of cricket supremacy as test cricket is increasingly losing attraction as popular event. In bilateral series in recent times England proved very strong opposition and climbed to the top of the table. The shocking defeat to Bangladesh in 2015 at Adelaide, their boggy team since 2011 England has not looked back and grew from strength to strength.
England Squad:
Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
England have finished runner-up in the World Cup on three occasions, including on home soil in 1979, and are clear favourites to win this year’s competition. Top of the ICC one-day rankings, England have not lost a one-day international series since losing in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy in June 2017, beating the West Indies, Australia (twice), New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka and drawing 2-2 with the West Indies this year.
England are the only team with four batsman - Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Eoin Morgan - in the top 20 ICC rankings and it will be their heavy scoring power that could propel them to victory.
The 15 members England squad comprises of 15 able horses for the courses. The team has prolific batsmen all the way from opening till almost number 11, penetrative as containing pace attack, great all rounders. The depth and diversity of the team and their experience in English condition and wickets gives them an advantage than the most.
Jason Roy and Alex Hales are seasoned openers. We are unsure about Hales a bit at the moment. If he sticks to his decision of not playing flamboyant Bairstow is there for the job. He has been in prolific job off late in IPL for Sun Risers Hyderabad. Joe Root at number three or four is among the top three batsmen of the world.
We all know about Captain Eoin Morgan, Tom Curran and Jos Butler. We are aware how devastating both can be in counter attacking. Then they have top quality all rounders in Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, David Willy and Moeen Ali. Even Adil Rashid and Mark Wood are no mug with the bat.
No current team bats so deep as this present England team does. Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunket and Ben Stokes are ideal pace bowlers on English wickets. All are very matured and experienced. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are above average spinners. England is really the side now that can take them to Lords for yet again cracking at the Cup.
This time the format is bit different .All the 10 teams will have to play against one another making it 9 matches in all in the pre knock out round. England having greater depth and diversity would hold the key England along with holders of the cup Australia and very strong India are tipped to remain among the top four. But being the game of glorious uncertainty nothing can be concluded. However, this will be a golden opportunity for the mother country of cricket for redeeming .Cricket world cup has so far eluded England.
