DHAKA: Bangladesh have started their World Cup mission with a win over South Africa by 21 runs in the fifth match at Kennington Oval in London.
Earlier in the day, South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has won the toss and elected to bowl against Bangladesh.
Shakib Al Hasan’s 75 off 84 balls and Mshfiqur Rahim †’s 78 off 80 balls helped tigers get 330 runs, the highest score in their world cup history, by losing six wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.
Besides, Mahmudullah contributed 46 not out off 33 balls and Soumya Sarkar 42 off 30 balls.
Shakib was made player of the match.
For South Africa, AL Phehlukwayo, CH Morris and Imran Tahir bagged two wickets each.
In response, South Africa scored 309 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Mostfizur Rahman bagged 3 wickets while Saifuddin picked up 2 wickets for Bangladesh.
