DHAKA: The US added 204,000 jobs in October, better than analysts had forecast. The jobless rate now stands at 7.3%.

US Labor Department said, reports the BBC.

On Thursday, it was announced that third-quarter US economic growth came in at a better-than-expected 2.8%.

The monthly non-farm payroll figure is taken as a key indicator of the health of the world`s biggest economy.

There had been fears that the 16-day shutdown of government services could hit jobs growth.

Investors are also looking for signs that the US Federal Reserve may begin to scale back its massive economic stimulus programme.

Despite the growth in the jobs figure, the overall unemployment rate was an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the month before.

The Labor Department said that this was likely to be because many federal workers were counted as unemployed during the shutdown.
