The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed an agreement with Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division (ERD), the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) to implement a groundbreaking project aimed at enhancing coastal resilience.
The project, titled "Project for Enhancing Coastal Resilience through Technology-based Forest Management," will span four years, from May 2025 to April 2029.
This initiative will bring Japanese expertise to collaborate with BFD in planning and monitoring forest management in the country's vulnerable coastal zones, which face severe climate change impacts, including cyclones and storm surges.
The project will focus on forest landscape restoration, particularly mangrove ecosystems, by utilizing advanced technologies to improve planning and monitoring.
JICA's support is a significant step toward addressing the challenges of coastal degradation and climate change, with benefits expected for both environmental conservation and local livelihoods.
