Gold prices increased again by Tk 1,365 per bhori

The price of 22-carat gold has been raised by BDT 1,365 to Tk 142,786 per bhori in Bangladesh due to a rise in pure gold in the local market.

The new prices will take effect from Thursday (January 30), according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

The decision was made in a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price monitoring today (January 29).

The information was later confirmed in a press release signed by Committee Chairman Masudur Rahman.

As per the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been increased by BDT 1,306 to BDT 136,305 per bhori. The price of 18-carat gold has gone up by BDT 1,107 to BDT 116,826 per bhori, while the price of traditional gold has risen by BDT 956 to BDT 96,018 per bhori.

However, silver prices remain unchanged.

The price of 22-carat silver stands at BDT 2,578 per bhori, 21-carat at BDT 2,449, 18-carat at BDT 2,111, and traditional silver at BDT 1,586 per bhori.

BAJUS in its statement said that a 5% government-imposed VAT and a minimum 6% making charge set by the association must be added to the selling price. However, making charges may vary depending on the jewelry design and quality.

Previously, on January 23, the price of 22-carat gold was BDT 141,426 per bhori, while on January 16, it was BDT 139,443 per bhori. This marks the third gold price adjustment this year, with all three adjustments resulting in price increases. In 2024, BAJUS adjusted gold prices 62 times, with 35 increases and 27 decreases.
