DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank is going to introduce LED lamps (light emitting diode) in governor’s floor next month in a bid to save power consumption.

“We will introduce LED lamps to save energy as the country is facing worst crisis in this sector,” Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr. Atiur Rahman told banglanews24.com.bd on Thursday.  

The LED lamps will save energy consumption three times better than the CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) which was introduced by the government. Electricity will be provided to LED lamps from the solar system of the bank, he said.  

At present, the central bank was generating 20KW electricity from its solar panel and lighting governor’s office, his conference and guest rooms. Security lamps around the bank are also get power from the solar panel.

The governor has requested commercial banks to install solar panel for own consumption.  

Mutual Trust Bank and Al-Arafa Islami Bank responded the governor’s call positively.
