DHAKA: Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain Wednesday said the Malaysian government showed interest in taking 6,000 more workers from Bangladesh, bending a virtual ban.
“They would also take labourers from Sudan, Jordan, Congo. So, we would have to take initiative to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia,” he said.
He came up with the information while talking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on return from Geneva.
The minister also informed that seven teams have been formed to ensure the rights and facilities of the expatriate workers.
The teams would inform the government about affairs of the expatriate workers by visiting different countries.
He further informed that the salary of the workers who are working in the Middle-Eastern countries would be paid through banks.
Expatriates welfare secretary Dr Jafar Ahmed Khan and managing director of Bangladesh Manpower Development Bureau were present.
