Journey begins with 4 students, now over 400

Approximately 15% of Bangladesh's population comprises persons with disabilities. No country can progress while neglecting such a significant segment of its people.

With a focus on humanitarian development, Bashundhara Group has established free special education programs for underprivileged children with autism and various disabilities.

The Bashundhara Special Children Foundation was inaugurated on 1 March 2017 at the Bashundhara Riverview Project in South Keraniganj, Dhaka, under the initiative of Yeasha Sobhan, Director of Bashundhara Group.

Initially starting with just four students, the institution now accommodates more than 400 students.

The institution employs skilled teachers, psychologists, therapy specialists, and staff to provide advanced education and training under specialised curricula.

Students participate in indoor and outdoor games, dance, music, and art classes as part of co-curricular activities. A park is available for recreation, and activities begin with an assembly at 8:30 am, continuing until 1:00 pm.

At the end of the school day, customised pictorial routines are provided for each student to guide their activities at home. Homework is assigned daily and submitted through videos when necessary, ensuring process accuracy. Over 70 personnel, including teachers and specialists, manage these activities.

Primary-level students follow the national curriculum and receive evaluations twice a year. Vocational classes teach handicrafts, sewing, machine work, beadwork, and cottage industry skills. Annual sports competitions, cultural events, and observance of national days are integral parts of the school calendar.

Upon completing their education and training, students are placed in jobs based on their qualifications. Currently, three students from vocational classes are employed at the foundation. School supplies and transportation are provided, with two buses facilitating commutes. Additionally, assistive devices are offered to students needing physiotherapy.

During crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, the institution extends support to students and their families, sharing joy and festivities with all.
