Renowned composer and seven-time National Film Award-winning music director Alam Khan died at a hospital in the capital on Friday (July 8)  morning. 

The 78-year-old music director breathed his last at 11:32am while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Alam Khan's son music director Arman Khan confirmed the news to media. Arman said he was suffering from old-age complications for long.

Alam Khan's musical talents began to show at the age of 10, when he put music to a song titled “Niribil Sondhaye Dekha Hole Dujonaye”, written by his friend Maksudur Rahman, and sang it. The song however was never released. His first released song was “O Madhobi Go Theko Mo'r Ontore”, which was sung by Rawshan Ara Mustafiz gained popularity after being broadcast on television in pre-independence Bangladesh.

He began his career assisting composers like Robin Ghosh, Altaf Mahmud and Satya Shaha, and his first solo work was in the 1970 film “KaNch Kata Heere”. The song “O Re Neel Doriya” (from “Sareng Bou”) brought him to spotlight, and he went on to win National Film Awards for films like “Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo”, “Teen Konya”, “Surrender”, “Dinkal”, “Bagher Thaba”, “Ebadot” and “Ki Jadu Korila”. It was through him that Ferdous Wahid, Andrew Kishore and Sheikh Ishtiaq debuted in playback. His most recent music direction was for the 2011 film “Ke Apon Ke Por”.
