Russia has temporarily closed all major airports in Moscow following an overnight drone attack it claims was launched by Ukraine—marking the second such incident in as many nights.

The aviation authority Rosaviatsia announced on Telegram that all four airports serving the capital had been shut to ensure safety amid the aerial threat.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated on social media that Russian air defences intercepted at least 19 drones approaching the city from various directions. Some debris reportedly fell on a major highway leading into Moscow, though no injuries were reported.

Ukraine has not issued an official response to the incident. However, it follows renewed cross-border tensions, particularly in Russia’s Kursk region.

On Sunday, Ukraine’s military claimed to have struck a drone command post near the Russian village of Tyotkino, close to the border. The following day, an electrical substation in Rylsk, also in Kursk, was reportedly damaged in an attack, with two transformers hit and two teenagers wounded by shrapnel, according to regional officials.

Unverified reports from Russian military bloggers suggest Ukrainian forces attempted to breach the border near Tyotkino, using special vehicles to cross minefields and launching missiles overnight. One account described armoured columns advancing behind mine-clearing units in what was called an ongoing “heavy battle” along the frontier.

Ukraine's Defence Forces, in a statement Monday, said they continue to maintain a presence in Russia’s Kursk region—nine months after their surprise incursion into the area. That operation, launched in August 2024, was aimed at establishing a buffer zone to protect Sumy and nearby Ukrainian territories.

Meanwhile, authorities in Sumy, located just across the border, have urged residents in two settlements to evacuate due to escalating security threats.
