India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has identified and debunked 43 instances of fake or misleading news since the launch of Operation Sindoor, as part of its ongoing fact-checking initiative.
The list, titled “List of Fact Checks since beginning of Operation Sindoor,” was released to counter what Indian authorities described as a wave of misinformation—primarily originating from Pakistani sources—amid rising tensions between the two nations.
The list includes fabricated claims about alleged Indian military losses, false reports of missile strikes on civilian areas, and doctored visuals purportedly showing damage within India. Several of the debunked items had circulated widely on social media and were shared by accounts linked to Pakistani state-backed narratives, according to PIB’s fact-checking wing.
The PIB’s fact-checking team, which works under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has urged citizens to verify information before sharing it and has made the full list of fact checks available on its official portal.
Operation Sindoor began earlier this month following escalatory incidents along the India-Pakistan border.
According to Indian officials, the recent strikes were in retaliation for the killing of 26 people last month by gunmen in the India-controlled part of Kashmir.
Since the strikes, both sides have been engaged in intense cross-border attacks, using missiles, drones, and artillery along the Line of Control and other border areas.
