World Mother’s Day is being observed across the country today, in line with celebrations in many other parts of the world.

The day is marked on the second Sunday of May each year to honor the love, sacrifices, and contributions of mothers. 

Families across Bangladesh are celebrating the occasion by expressing gratitude and affection toward mothers through various gestures.

The modern celebration of Mother’s Day originated in early 20th-century America, led by Anna Jarvis, who held the first official observance in 1908 in West Virginia. 

Her campaign to recognize mothers’ sacrifices gained national attention, leading U.S. President Woodrow Wilson to officially declare the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day in 1914.
