The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the VAT exemption for Dhaka metro rail operations until the end of this year.

The decision, signed by Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, Second Secretary of the NBR's VAT Division, was issued through a special order on Monday (January 6).

According to the order, Metro Rail is Bangladesh's most modern and popular public transport, playing a vital role in reducing traffic congestion and saving working hours. To make Metro Rail more accessible and popular, the VAT exemption has been granted under the powers conferred by Section 126(3) of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012.

The exemption is effective immediately and will remain valid until December 31, 2025.
