The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot and injured a Bangladeshi national near the Chapainawabganj border.
The victim, identified as Md. Habil, son of Md. Belal, hails from Telkupi Namopara village in Shibganj Upazila’s Shahbazpur Union.
Mohammad Kased Ali, a member of Ward No. 7 of Shahbazpur Union, confirmed the incident on Saturday afternoon.
He said that he heard from locals that Habil went to water his wheat field at around 4:00 am on Saturday. At that time, BSF fired at him. Habil is a very good person. He has no involvement in smuggling or any illegal activities. Moreover, there are no cases against him, he added.
Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, the commander of the Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB), said, “Around 3:30 am on Saturday, seven to eight smugglers entered India. During this time, BSF fired two to three rounds. It is still unclear if anyone was injured. We will provide detailed information later through a press briefing.”
