CA calls emergency meeting over seven college issue

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called an emergency meeting to address the ongoing unrest connection to Dhaka’s Seven Colleges.

Education Adviser Prof. Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. S.M.A. Faiz, and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, attended the meeting, according to the Chief Adviser’s Office on Tuesday evening (January 28).

Earlier in the afternoon, student representatives of the Seven Colleges held discussions with Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam at the Secretariat.

Following the meeting, the protesting students withdrew their plans to besiege New Market Police Station and halt Dhaka University bus services. The government assured them that their six-point demands would be addressed through proper procedures, leading to the cancellation of their earlier announced programs.

Dhaka College student Moinul Islam, speaking after the meeting, said, “The government has shown a positive attitude toward our demands. Immediate actions on feasible demands have been taken. We have withdrawn our programs, including plans to block buses and besiege the police station.”

The situation remains under close observation, with further actions pending discussions in the emergency meeting.
