Edi journey: Crowds surge at Kamalapur, trains leave on time

A large number of passengers have gathered at Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka as people travel home ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, creating a busy scene today (March 26).

Despite the heavy crowds, trains have been departing on schedule, Banglanews Correspondent reports.

Station officials confirmed that trains running between 6 am and 11 am on Wednesday, including Dhumketu Express, Teesta Express, Parabat Express, Sonar Bangla Express, and Rangpur Express, left the station punctually.

Although the station is packed, passengers are experiencing minimal inconvenience. To ensure safety, law enforcement agencies are on high alert, and three-tier security measures are in place at the station.

Passengers are not allowed to enter without valid tickets, and security personnel are actively managing the crowd.

March 26 marks a holiday for the Independent Day, and many families of working people are departing Dhaka. With government employees set to leave on Thursday (March 27), the pressure at the station is expected to increase further as Eid approaches.

In a related development, Adviser to the Ministry of Railways Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan inaugurated the Narsingdi Commuter-1 and Narsingdi Commuter-4 trains, which now operate on the Dhaka-Narsingdi-Bhairab Bazar route.

Speaking at the event, Khan acknowledged the surge in demand for tickets during Eid, noting that the number of tickets often increases four to six times.

He also assured that efforts would be made to increase the number of trains, and any railway official involved in ticket blackmail would face immediate disciplinary action.
