Chief Adviser urges clear roadmap for Asia’s shared prosperity

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today (March 27) called on Asian nations to chart a clear roadmap for collective growth and prosperity.

He said: “In this rapidly changing world, the destinies of Asian countries are interconnected. We must define a clear path towards a shared future and prosperity.”

The CA was addressing the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) conference in Hainan.

Prof. Yunus underscored the need for a sustainable financing mechanism, urging regional Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and other institutions to take the lead.

“We need reliable funding sources that can effectively address challenges and meet our growing needs,” he stated.

On trade, he highlighted Asia’s low level of economic integration, which he said was restricting investment and commerce. “This weak integration stifles trade and economic potential. Strengthening cooperation in this area is crucial,” he noted.

The Chief Adviser stressed the importance of resource-efficient farming to enhance food security.

“We must reduce dependency on imports and achieve self-sufficiency through sustainable, tech-driven agriculture,” he said, calling for greater innovation in climate-smart and regenerative farming.

Prof. Yunus also emphasized the need for a strong technological ecosystem that is “restorative, distributive, and inclusive.”

“Knowledge-sharing, investment in tech incubation, and collaboration on digital solutions will be key drivers of progress,” he said.

He urged Asian nations to mobilize intellectual resources and empower youth, placing them at the heart of regional development efforts.

“We must lay the foundation for a self-sustaining and responsible society, embracing a zero-waste lifestyle and prioritizing social business—where innovation, purpose, and responsibility converge,” he added.

The Chief Adviser called on youth and entrepreneurs to take an active role in shaping Asia’s future, urging every young person to adopt the ‘three-zero’ mindset: zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration, and zero unemployment through social entrepreneurship.

“This is the shared future that we in Asia must build together,” he concluded.
