Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Baharul Alam has said that police officers at all levels have been instructed to properly investigate cases filed after August 5, ensuring no innocent person is harassed.
He made the remark at a briefing on Police Week 2025, held at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital’s Bailey Road area on Monday (April 28) at 3pm.
The IGP said, “Many innocent people after August 5 has been included in the false cases. This has come to our attention. Myself including Home Ministry from the beginning made it clear that no innocent person should be arrested or harassed.
“If someone is found responsible during investigation, we will seek an arrest warrant against them,” he said.
Responding to a question about false cases filed against journalists and others, the police chief said, “As literacy has increased, people now write their complaints themselves. When a complaint is filed, we are legally bound to record it. We cannot verify at that moment whether it is true or false. Investigation later determines the truth, and only the true part is forwarded to the court.”
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, AIG (Media) Enamul Haque Sagar, and police headquarters’ Public Relations Officer AKM Kamrul Ahsan were also present at the briefing.
