DHAKA: Chinese Vice-President Xi Jingping left Dhaka for Laos on Tuesday noon after two days’ official visit to Bangladesh that yielded some broad agreements on placing the bilateral ties on a higher trajectory.

Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni saw him off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3pm.

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Monirul Islam to BanglaNews24.com.bd that Foreign Secretary Mohammad Mijarul Quayes and high-ups of the ministry were present.

Earlier in the day, Xi Jingping met with President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban and discussed bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern.

The Chinese Vice-President invited Bangladesh President to visit China at a time of his convenience. Zillur Rahman gave importance to bolstering the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Earlier, Speaker of the National Parliament advocate Abdul Hamid hosted a luncheon in honour of the Chinese leader.

In the morning, opposition leader Khaleda Zia met the Chinese Vice-President at his hotel suite.

The Chinese leader went to Savar in the morning to pay tribute to the martyrs of the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Xi Jinping arrived in Dhaka Monday. He held formal talks with Premier Sheikh Hasina on the first day of his visit

Foreign Ministry officials said this was apparently a return visit following Sheikh Hasina’s China trip in March.
