The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expressed concern over what it calls "incorrect information" about the party in a Class IX-X textbook.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, speaking at a press conference in Dhaka, demanded a revision of the "Pouranity and Nagorikata" book, citing a claim on page 73 that BNP "was born in the cantonment."
Rizvi rejected the claim, stating that BNP was founded by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 1978, not in the cantonment, but during a press conference at Dhaka's Ramna Restaurant, where he was the elected president.
He criticized the portrayal of the party as part of a broader conspiracy to "demean" BNP.
Additionally, Rizvi pointed out that the same textbook describes the Awami League as the largest political party in Bangladesh, which he called biased.
He urged authorities to correct the textbook to provide impartial and accurate historical information.
The BNP leader also called for legal action against those responsible for what he described as a distortion of history and propaganda.
Other senior BNP leaders were present at the press conference.
