Govt initiative urged to end deadlock

DHAKA: Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president ASM Abdur Rab on Saturday asked the government to solve the problem through talks saying “the ball is in government’s court”.

“The ball is in government’s court and the government should take initiative for a dialogue to end the ongoing political turmoil in the country,” he said.

He came up with the assertion while addressing in a roundtable discussion at the Institution of Engineers in the city.

Addressing the function, former Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda presided over the second phase of the program.

ASM Abdur Rab also said, “The government is responsible for the present political crisis. Arson attack and opening fire is not the solution rather the government should step forward to solve the crisis.”

The JSD president said that not only the two leading political parties but also all political parties should participate to hold a national discussion in ensuring the rights of 16-crore people of the country.

He also expressed concern about the basic rights, civil rights and freedom of the nation as the incumbent government wants to capture power till 2041.

He also claimed that the democracy is absent in the country.

ASM Abdur Rab also criticized the role of the law enforcers and government for creating political unrest in the country.

On the other hand, he said that killing people in the name of movement is not acceptable. “We should come out of this ill manner of politics,” he added.

The JSD leader also criticized the activities of the incumbent government and demanded to get back the rights to hold rally.
