CHITTAGONG: Police detained eight leaders and activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami in accusation of creating violence in Chittagong.

The detainees include five from Jamaat and 3 from BNP.

District additional police super (Special Branch) Mohammad Naimul Hasan told banglnews that they conducted nightlong drives in Sitakunda, Boalkhali, Satkania and Lohagara thanas and nabbed eight BNP-Jamaat men.

The detainees are accused in cases of creating violence, he added.

According to Hasan, anti-violence drives will continue to thwart any untoward situation in the district.
