The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) staged a protest in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur on Monday (April 21), demanding a ban on the judicial and political activities of the Awami League, reforms, and the announcement of Constituent Assembly elections.
Organized by NCP’s Greater Mohammadpur Zone, the protest march began from the Shahid Park Mosque premises at Town Hall and ended at Tokyo Square near the Shia Mosque.
Protesters chanted slogans like “No compromise, only movement” and “Streets over deals.”
Before the march, NCP leaders held a brief rally.
At the rally, NCP Joint Member Secretary Akram Hossain alleged that 20 to 30 people were killed in Mohammadpur, but no official gazette has been published, nor have the accused been arrested. He said existing cases against Awami League members should be acted upon and justice must be ensured by united students and citizens.
NCP Central Organizer Imran Iman said that those responsible for killings and oppression still roam freely.
He said Awami League has no moral right to do politics in Bangladesh after allegedly destroying democracy and committing violence.
