DHAKA: Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu asked journalist leaders to send the list of the tortured media people to his office within 72 hours.
The minister fixed the time while speaking at a discussion organized by a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) on World Press Freedom Day-2015 in National Press Club of the city on Sunday.
Inu said Bangladesh media are always active.
Bangladesh media have gradually been expanding since last six years as the incumbent government believes in the freedom of expression.
Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the maker of country’s development, Inu said that the PM tolerates criticism of her government.
There are some stray incidents reported, Inu opined, the AL-led government has been trying to solve the problems.
According to the minister, at least 77 journalists are in jail in Britain now. ‘So, comparatively the situation of Bangladesh is better than Britain.’
‘List of the tortured journalists will be in front of me within 72 hours and I will look into the matter to find out the reasons behind the torture,’ he added.
BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul presided over the program where PM’s information adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and journalists Shafiqur Rahman, Kuddus Afrad and Farida Yasmin, among others, were present at the program.
