DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami has called dawn-to-dusk hartal for Thursday (January 7) protesting the upheld of death penalty of its ameer war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami.
In a press statement, party’s acting ameer Makbul Ahmad and acting secretary general Dr Shafikur Rahman declared the countrywide daylong hartal hour’s after the Supreme Court order.
The appellate division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the death sentence of war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami on charge of killing intellectuals, mass killing and rape.
The party leaders, in the statement, said the allegations that were brought against Nizami are ‘false, baseless, fabricated and fictitious’.
They also claimed that people of the country have rejected the verdict.
According to them, Nizami would file petition seeking review the appeal verdict.
Nizami will be acquitted from all charges if justice is ensured in review petition, they hoped.
