DHAKA: Opposition BNP Saturday came up with a cautionary comment that the government is depriving the common man of their fundamental rights and thereby standing on slippery slope getting alienated from the people.

“So, people are nowhere beside the government, and if this situation continues, no ‘foreign masters’ could save the government,” said BNP Secretary-General Khandaker Delwar Hossain.

The main opposition party, which had ruled the country for several tenures in the past—and seen many ups and downs--came up with the note of warning at a press conference at its central office.

Alleging that a list of 70 BNP leaders has been sent to the airport, Delwar said it is a “violation of people’s fundamental and constitutional rights” to curb their freedom of movement.

In view of the ruling party’s activities, he drew the conclusion: “Never ever was there democracy in the Awami League though they speak of democracy”.  

He also deplored that the present government is ruling the country following the policy of the previous caretaker government.

The BNP leader warned that movement would be waged with the help of the people under the leadership of BNP chairperson and ex-PM Khaleda Zia to give a fit reply to such activities of the government.

Party Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian, joint secretary-general Rizvi Ahmed, Juba Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal and Dhaka Bar Association president Advocate Sanaullah Mian were among others present at the press meet.
