BNP's talks with allies on upcoming national election begins

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) today (Dec 21) began discussion with its allied political parties to strengthen unity and discuss the upcoming general election.

The discussions began with a meeting of the 12-party alliance leaders, led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Later in the day, BNP leaders also met with representatives from Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote, LDP, and the Labour Party. Further meetings with other like-minded parties are planned in the coming days.

A BNP Standing Committee member revealed that the talks will focus on the current political situation, the government’s election reforms, and potential election roadmaps. The party plans to enhance unity within the alliance and push for the swift scheduling of the national election, which they fear may be delayed until 2026.

BNP also expressed concerns over the formation of the "Jatiya Nagorik Committee," a movement potentially backed by the government, and its possible impact on the election timeline.
